Contact North | Contact Nord Partners With PARO to Empower Aboriginal Women
PARO Centre for Women’s Enterprise, based in Thunder Bay, Ontario, has launched a new and innovative training series designed specifically for Aboriginal women in Northern Ontario, which will be delivered via Contact North ǀ Contact Nord’s web conferencing technology.
This new training will connect prominent business leaders from across the region with Aboriginal women for the very first time and will teach women in these communities how to apply traditional practices to achieve business success. The workshops will also provide participants with an opportunity to establish contacts outside of their communities while learning from the experience of other women entrepreneurs.
The training is comprised of six online workshops that will be offered throughout the month of May, 2012. They will provide essential resources for women who are looking to start, grow or build a business and help them create new networks across the region.
PARO Executive Director, Rosalind Lockyer, says, “Geographic isolation in particular continues to be a major barrier for women living in remote and rural communities. It prevents them from connecting and collaborating in the ways that many of us take for granted in our own communities. By offering this training online through Contact North ǀ Contact Nord, PARO is using technology to address an important need. We are finding new ways to empower women within their communities, while promoting economic growth and development in the North.”
